Childhood obesity is both a local and national epidemic. Childhood obesity is a risk factor for:

  • Diabetes
  • Asthma
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Orthopedic problems
  • Liver problems
  • Breathing problems during sleep
  • Increased adult obesity

In the last few decades, the number of obese children has doubled1. In Los Angeles County 1 in 5 students in the 5th, 7th, and 9th grades are obese2.
